River Retreat Caravan Park Review
After a short pit stop at Hugh Muntz Park, we booked in for a 2 week stay at the River Retreat Caravan Park in Tweed Heads South which proved to be an awesome spot to explore both Fingal Head and the Gold Coast Beaches
One of the main things that really stood out about this park was the fact the caravan park owners really valued your dogs! During checking in, we were generally chatting about how difficult it can be to find parks that permitted dogs without size restrictions in and around the Gold Coast area. It was refreshing to hear that this park values dog owners so much that they ask if you have dogs as part of the 'pre-qualification call' and if you dont; they actually turn you away to ensure they have spaces for travellers with dogs! (Especially during peak seasons) We can verify this claim after looking around the park and probably more than 80% had dogs! So credit to the caravan park! At the end of the day there are so many alternative options for travellers without pets (just they probably dont overlook the Terranora Creek)
The park itself had spacious campspots. Our slabbed sites allowed you to easily park beside your camp set up without the worry of encroaching on your neighbours territory. There were separate grassy areas (without slabs) for travellers who towed very large and long caravans, so plenty of room for them too!
The park as a whole was very well maintained, clean with good shower, toilet and BBQ facilities. They have recently re-developed their pool area which was small but was a nice chillout area.
One drawback to the park is that it is on the the flight path of the nearby airport. Every hour or so, you will hear the planes taking off so if you are using your mobile at that time, you'd better put the other person on hold :). It wasn't a major issue and you get used to it after a day or so.
The location of the park is within close proximity to the Gold Coast beaches. There were plenty of choices and options to walk the dog, check our other blog page here about the dog friendly gold coast beaches.
Overall it was a great spot. At $32 per night (weekly rate) or $37 per night (daily rate). we would return in the future!
