Hugh Muntz Park, Beenleigh (QLD)
Strangely we headed south from Sheldon Caravan Park as opposed to the previous plan of heading north towards the Sunshine Coast. The main motivating factor was to spend a bit of time on the Gold Coast and checkout the various beaches there.
We hunted around for various dog friendly caravan parks but the best option we could find was in Tweed Heads. We therefore decided to head down to Tweed Heads and take a small pit stop at one of Brisbane's "free camps" at Hugh Muntz Park.
Hugh Muntz Park is located just off the Pacific Motorway close to the town of Beenleigh. I would describe this more of a rest area as opposed to a campground and really is only suitable for self contained vehicles and campers.
We arrived early in the morning and parked up in the designated overnight stay section which backed onto the actual park and the nearby lake. The dogs instantly found home under the camper.
Upon arriving we were shocked that it was not busy at all. We used the opportunity to test out the new generator and see if it can charge the camper (awesome it did!) However, as time went by the park began to fill out pretty quickly with various caravans, campers and RV's with people and families of all ages and backgrounds.
The park itself had good facilities including toilets, BBQ and picnic points, water and a RV dump point. There is a pathway that walks around the outside of the parkland that follows the lake which was great for walking the dogs. We quickly learn't not to walk in the dark under the trees without a torch. Practically all the tree's near the lake had spiders hanging out, setting up their webs for the night.
Overall it was good pit stop and good facilities for a free camp. It is also close to the nearby town for grocery shopping centre and various offleash dog parks within 5/10 minute drive away.
