Gold Coast - Dog Friendly Beaches

After the pit sop at Hugh Muntz Park in Beenleigh, we headed down towards the NSW / QLD border and stayed at the River Retreat Caravan Park in Tweed Heads South. This park was conveniently positioned within driving distance to both Fingal Head beaches and the Gold Coast beaches.

We had heard mixed reviews about the Gold Coast with people saying its great for dogs and others saying it was more commercialised, built up and not suitable when it came to dog friendly beaches. So we decided to investigate it ourselves.

As with most suburbs, there were designated dog friendly off leash beaches which included:

• Biggera Waters Beach, Biggera Waters (QLD)

• The Spit, Main Beach (QLD)

• Main Beach, Main Beach (QLD)

• Muriel Henchman Park Beach, Main Beach (QLD)

• Currumbin Creek Beach, Palm Beach (QLD)

• Tullebudgera Creek Beach, Palm Beach (QLD)

However, whilst venturing out around the Gold Coast, we also stumbled across alot of vast beaches that were dog friendly and permitted dogs on the beach providing they remain leashed at all times. The only major restriction on these beaches were that dogs were prohibited when the flags were up and they are not permitted within 200 metres of where the flags were flying. These beaches included:

• Nobby Beach, Mermaid Beach (QLD)

• Miami Beach, Miami (QLD)

• North Miami Beach, Miami (QLD)

• Pacific Beach, Palm Beach (QLD)

• South Palm Beach, Palm Beach (QLD)

• Esplanade South Park Beach, Paradise Point (QLD)

• Paradise Point Beach, Paradise Point (QLD)

• Shearwater Park Beach, Runaway Bay (QLD)

• Northcliffe Beach, Surfers Paradise (QLD)

• Tugun Beach, Tugun (QLD)

Probably our favourite are was The Spit which we had previously reviewed <here> but equally the on leash beaches were just as vast and stretch for KM's for a nice stroll down the beach front.
