The last few months have been mostly focussed on work and checking out the local parks in and round Brisbane. From what we can find, there are over 700+ parks and reserves within a 30km radius of Brisbane CBD and we have made it a task to visit them all to check the facilities, rules, restrictions and get pictures and videos for http://www.dogexplorer.com.au

As you can imagine, it hasn't really left alot of time to explore ourselves. So last weekend (2nd April), we decided to visit one of the few State Forests within close proximity to Brisbane's CBD called Mount Coot-Tha Forest which is about 5km north west of the CBD.

The forest is actually a conservation reserve which is around 1500 hectares of eucalyptus forest. There are 9 picnic areas, which all have access to various walking tracks and a good amount of BBQ and picnic facilities. We decided to explore two tracks "JC Slaughter Falls" and "Simpson Falls". 

JC Slaughter Falls was quite an easy track to the lookout point. The path continues on to the summit overlooking the city (apparently) although we didn't continue and opted to check out Simpson Falls

Simpson Falls got our vote. The track itself to the falls was about 20-30 mins and it meandered through thicker bush and posed more of a challenging hike compared to JC Slaughter Falls. The last section to the top was somewhat steeper and rocky and coming back down certainly proved more of a challenge, especially wearing flip flops :)
